Fictional Work

An extract from Jack's first time in the operating theatre
“Now, Jack, this is the most important part of the operation,” warned Mr Longmore. “I’m going to place a heavy tie over the artery and vein to secure them, and then on my command, you’ll take the clamp off.”

“Yes, Mr Longmore.” My mouth was so dry with apprehension; I was having difficulty forming the words.

“If you take the clamp off before I’ve secured them he’ll bleed to death almost immediately.” He paused for effect, before resuming. “And then I’ll kill you.”
Is Jack falling in love?
It was at this point that I caught sight of Debbie again. My god, she was stunning. The flat blue uniform, which did absolutely nothing for most nurses, caressed and highlighted every curve of her full yet slim physique.

“Morning, Jack,” she piped cheerily.

“Morning, Debbie,” I stuttered. I could feel the dizzying sensation as the adrenaline charged through my veins and the colour rose in my face.

From Cradle to Grave is the tale of Jack, a young, fresh-out-of-medical-school doctor, with dreams of becoming a high flying surgeon. But will his hopes be dashed before the journey has even begun? And will Debbie, the beautiful nurse he’s just met but is rapidly falling for, reciprocate his feelings?
